Movie Verdict
Despite its comedic and suspenseful elements, “Monica, O My Darling” defies categorization as it features so many different elements in its plot. The movie’s mix of several genres makes it interesting to watch despite its simple plot and a few predictable scenes. Unlike most thrillers, this one is lighthearted despite presenting violent crime scenes and dire situations. The narrative keeps us guessing until the very end, even though there aren’t many surprises in the film.
Rajkummar Rao gives an outstanding performance as Jayant Arkhedkar, a multifaceted character who is brilliantly portrayed on television. Huma Qureshi, as usual, was fantastic despite the fact that she had almost no screen time. Radhika Apte shines in the role of ACP Naidu, who has an offbeat sense of humour despite her demanding duties. Sikandar Kher, who looks like a prince, gives a good performance as Nishikant Adhikari. Bagavathi Perumal provides the film with much-needed lightheartedness all through. Everyone, including Akansha Ranjan Kapoor, did their part to advance the story.
The visuals in “Monica, O My Darling” are appealing. The music and sound design by Achint Thakkar are ideal for the film’s genre and add suspense to the viewing experience. The cinematography by Swapnil S Sonawane, whose solemn tone permeates every shot in the film, is also worth mentioning. Atanu Mukherjee does a great job of cutting out any fluff that wouldn’t add anything to the story. The level of production is top notch.
As a director, Vasan Bala had already been recognised for his work on the movie “Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota” and two stories from the anthology “Ray.” His latest effort, however, has been able to successfully capture the attention of the public. In spite of certain slip-ups, he managed to keep the moviegoers fascinated right up to the end.
The great performances from its leading actors make “Monica, O My Darling” an interesting thriller. If you’re looking for something fresh and exciting to do on Netflix, I highly recommend this film.
