Varun Tej was born in Hyderabad, Telangana, on January 19, 1990. His father, actor and producer Nagendra Babu, is his father, and his mother is Padmaja. His sister’s name is Niharika Konidela. He is related to the stars Chiranjeevi and Pawan Kalyan, as well as Ram Charan, Allu Arjun, Allu Sirish, Sai Teja, and Panja Vaishnav Tej.

Varun Tej’s father is Telugu actor and producer Nagendra Babu. He is the nephew of Pawan Kalyan and Chiranjeevi, two actors. His younger sister Niharika is also an actress. Tej made his acting debut in his father Nagendra Babu’s film Hands Up! when he was barely ten years old. In the film Mukunda, he made his adult acting debut alongside another newcomer, Pooja Hegde. The movie received a variety of reviews. His second film, the war drama Kanche, which starred Pragya Jaiswal and received positive reviews from critics, was released in 2015. Along with his 2017 film Mister, Tej’s second release that year, Loafer, also had a poor box office performance. The Times of India praised Tej’s portrayal of Dhupati Haribabu and praised his “ability to shift gears from intense to sobriety.”
In the second half of 2017, the film Fidaa, in which he starred as an NRI who falls in love with a rustic belle, was released. At the box office, the film brought in over 90 crores, making it a financial success. His 2018 film, Tholi Prema, too went well at the box office, and Tej garnered accolades for the role he played as an impetuous young man. His next film that year was the space thriller Antariksham 9000 KMPH, which was directed by Sankalp Reddy.
Tej’s first release of 2019 was the multistarrer F2: Fun and Frustration, which also starred Venkatesh, Tamannaah, and Mehreen Pirzada. It was a huge box office hit. He completed a Telugu dub for the role of Aladdin in the motion picture Aladdin after F2. Later, he made an appearance in the box office success Gaddalakonda Ganesh, a Tamil film Jigarthanda remake directed by Harish Shankar.
Tej is now engaged in production on two films: Ghani and F3, the sequel to F2. In the Kiran Korrapati-directed film Ghani, Tej plays a boxer.
