Ramana Gogula has an M.S. in computer science from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and an M.Tech. in mechanical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Kharagpur. Louisiana is on the southeastern coast of the United States, right next to the Gulf of Mexico.

Ramana came from the Gogula family, which had a long history of making music. His mother can sing arias like a real pro. But Ramana began to like music from the West. Pink Floyd and Jethro Tull were the first bands that he heard that played Indian music. But over time, he grew to like Indian music. When he was 17, he started his first rock band while he was studying engineering at IIT Kharagpur.

Back then, he began to try out fusion and original composition for the first time. When he was abroad, he joined a reggae group. He and his band played at local watering holes for the next four years.
