He was the youngest of Shyamanna and D. Rajammal’s six children, all of whom were nurtured in an orthodox home under the name Ravichandran.
He married Vishnupriya in 1986, and the two finally had a son, Rahul Ravi, in 1988. Rahul Ravi, his son, married Muthupriya in May 2017.

Nizhalgal Actor In the Tamil film Nizhalgal, which was directed by seasoned industry veteran Bharathiraja and from whom he also took his name, Ravi made his debut in the South Indian film business.
