Thiagarajan Kumararaja Career

His first film, the mafia drama Aaranya Kaandam, was directed in 2011. Critics praised the movie, which earned him the Indira Gandhi Award for Best First Film of a Director at the 59th National Film Awards. In popular movies like X: Past Is Present, Yennai Arindhaal, Aneethi Kathaigal, and Aaranya Kaandam, he has acted. His upcoming effort, Super Deluxe, is scheduled to be released in November 2018. Kumararaja began writing the script for his debut movie in December 2006. He composed the final portion first before adding various tales, despite his initial desire to make a “racy film.” He later acknowledged that the movie was lazily paced and took its time to develop.

When Kumararaja saw Charan in January 2007, he spent two hours telling him the tale. By the end of 2007, filming was supposed to begin, but Charan chose to make another movie first. In December 2008, the Tamil film Aaranya Kaandam, starring Ravi Krishna, Sampath Raj, and Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff, was released.

Kumararaja completed the entire film, which was shot entirely in and around Chennai, in more than one and a half years. After the film was done, problems arose because the Chennai regional censor board refused to certify it and required 52 changes due to its excessive violence and vulgarity. According to Kumararaja, the film was created for a mature audience and was not intended for youngsters. He further stated that he expected censorship to provide difficulties.

He and Charan applied to the Central Tribunal in Delhi, which gave its approval after learning that he intended to present the film to viewers without flinching. The launch of Aaranya Kaandam, hailed as the first neo-noir movie in Tamil cinema, was met with enthusiastic reviews. At the 59th National Film Awards, it went on to take home two prizes, including Kumararaja’s Indira Gandhi Award for Best Debut Director’s Film. At the 2010 South Asian International Film Festival, it also took home the Grand Jury Prize for Best Film. In 2015, he provided writing advice for the Tamil film Yennai Arindhaal, which Gautham Vasudev Menon also co-wrote and directed.
