Ravi Varman Early Life
In Tamil Nadu, India, Poyyoundarkudikkadu is a small town not far from Thanjavur, the city where Ravi Varman was born. Young Varman’s mother passed away. Just before she passed away, his mother’s image was unintentionally captured by the wedding photographer at a nearby wedding. When Varman went to the studio to have an image enlarged, he learned the meaning of the phrase “out of focus.” He grew to love movies and photography as a result, even though he never gave the idea of working in the film business any serious thought.

After making his acting debut in the Malayalam film Jalamarmaram in 1999, Ravi went on to star in and direct films in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, and English. He won the Tamil Nadu State Picture Award for Best Cinematographer for the movie Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu in addition to various other honors for his work on the Anurag Basu film Barfi (2012).
