Shankar Mahadevan Early Life

On March 3, 1967, Shankar Mahadevan was born in the Mumbai neighborhood of Chembur (he is 52 years old as of 2019). At the young age of five, Shankar started learning how to play the harmonium and Veena. Pandit Shrinivas Khale, a prodigy of Hindustani Classical music, was his teacher. TR Balamani has also taught him how to play classical Carnatic music.

Shankar Mahadevan is a distinguished Tamil Iyer from Kerala’s Palakkad. Deepika Shringarpure is Shankar Mahadevan’s younger sister. Shankar’s wife is Sangeeta Shankar Mahadevan. Siddharth Mahadevan, a singer and composer born on April 16, 1993, and Shivam Shankar Mahadevan, a musician born in 2001, are their two musically gifted sons.

Shankar Mahadevan Career

Before starting his musical career, Shankar worked as a software programmer for the Oracle Corporation. Shankar began his career by singing jingles for advertisements. With the songs “Petta Rap” and “Urvasi Urvasi,” Shankar Mahadevan made his musical debut in the 1994 Hindi version of Kadhalan, Humse Hai Muqabala.

The first Bollywood song he ever sang was “Tum Nahi Jaana” from the movie Duplicate (1998). His many hit songs include “Chamma Chamma,” “Bhumbro Bhumbro,” “Ghanan Ghanan,” “Maahi Ve,” “Kajra Re,” “Mitwa,” and “Sau Aasoon.” After the release of his debut album “Breathless” in 1998, Shankar’s popularity skyrocketed. The music on the album was composed by Javed Akhtar. He made his acting debut in the 1997 movie V.I.P. with the song “Netru No No.”

He made his Telugu debut in 1998 with the release of the movie “Antahpuram,” which included the song “Shivamethara Sambayya.” Shankar made his debut in the Kannada language with the song “Dennana Dennanaa” from the 1999 movie Janumadatha. His Malayalam career officially began with the song “Pakkala Paadan Vaa” from the 2000 film “Dreamz.” The song “Mann Udhaan Varyache” from the 2004 film Aga Bai Arrecha! was Shankar’s debut performance in Marathi. He has also performed songs in the Tulu language, such as the movie Rickshaw Driver’s “Jai Tulunadu” premiere (2014).

He made his film scoring debut for the 1999 film “Rockford” as a part of the musical group “Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy.” He wrote music for numerous movies, including Mission Kashmir (2000), Dil Chahta Ha (2001), Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003), Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006), Taare Zameen Par (2007), My Name Is Khan (2010), and 2 States (2014).
