Aditya Chopra Biography
Aditya Chopra Education
He attended the Bombay Scottish School and earned his degree from the Mumbai-based Sydenham College of Commerce and Economics.
Aditya Chopra Early Life
Aditya Chopra, the son of renowned filmmaker Yash Chopra and his wife Pamela, has always enjoyed reading, watching movies, and dancing. His closest classmates and friends at Hassaram Rijhumal College of Commerce and Economics in Mumbai, where he attended Bombay Scottish School, included Karan Johar, Abhishek Kapoor, and Anil Thadani.
Aditya Chopra’s younger brother Uday is also a well-known Hindi film actor. Mohabbatein, Neal N Nikki, Dhoom, and Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai are among his films. Karan Johar, Ravi Chopra, and Vidhu Vinod Chopra are Aditya Chopra’s first cousins, and they are all the offspring of Yash Chopra’s brother B.R. Chopra, sister Hiroo Johar, and brother D.N. Chopra, respectively. His aunt is the renowned former actress Simi Garewal.
Aditya Chopra, better known as Adi to his family and fraternity brothers, has shied away from the media his entire professional life. He wed Payal Khanna, his high school sweetheart, in 2001, but by 2009, when rumours of an affair with Rani Mukerji started to spread, the couple had already filed for divorce. In 2014, they had a covert wedding in Italy. Adira Chopra, their first child, was born in December 2015.
Aditya Chopra Career
Aditya Chopra assisted his father Yash Chopra on the Sridevi-starring films Lamhe (1991), Chandni (1989), and Darr before making his directorial debut with the mega-blockbuster cult classic Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (1993). Success followed, and the movie was named the best popular movie that provided wholesome entertainment, winning the National Film Award.
His second film, the romantic romance Mohabbatein, was a box office smash. After an eight-year absence, Aditya Chopra returned to directing with Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. While receiving mixed reviews from critics, the film’s soundtrack became the first Bollywood album to break into the top ten sales for the iTunes Store. Aditya Chopra made a comeback to directing with the 2016 romantic comedy Befikre after an eight-year sabbatical.
His first significant cinematic endeavour was Dil Toh Pagal Hai, which was directed by Aditya Chopra and released in 1997 under the Yash Raj Films label owned by his father. After Yash Chopra’s enormously popular love story, Aditya Chopra made Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai and Mujhse Dosti Karoge, two duds starring his brother Uday Chopra. Aditya Chopra produced the movies Hum Tum, Veer Zaara, and Dhoom in 2004. All of them broke box office records and were huge commercial and critical hits.
The film mogul produced Chak De! India in 2007, and it went on to win the National Award, establishing YRF as a production company that can handle any kind of movie.
YRF suffered significant financial losses and consistently released commercial duds between 2007 and 2010. At the box office, movies like 2008’s Tashan, 2007’s Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, 2008’s Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic, 2008’s Roadside Romeo, and 2010’s Pyaar Impossible all woefully underperformed. The filmmaker joined Yash Raj Films as Vice President after his crime comedy Badmaash Company found success. There, he handled the production of movies like Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year, Band Baaja Baaraat, Ladies VS Ricky Bahl, Ishaqzaade, and Shuddh Desi Romance.
Yash Raj Films produced a number of well-known movies in 2012 and 2013, including “Ek Tha Tiger,” “Jab Tak Hai Jaan,” and “Dhoom 3,” all of which broke box office records. Aditya Chopra was promoted to Chairman of YRF following the death of his father Yash Chopra in 2012. The movies Gunday, Bewakoofiyaan, Mardaani, Dawaat-e-Ishq, and Kill Dill were all made shortly after. In 2015, movies like Titli, Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!, and Dum Laga Ke Haisha marked YRF’s entry into the arthouse genre. Salman Khan’s 2016 action-drama Sultan was an effort to repeat the popularity of his 2012 movie Ek Tha Tiger.
