Shoojit Sircar Education
He completed his secondary schooling at Kendriya Vidyalaya Barrackpore Airforce in 1985 and then went on to Shaheed Bhagat Singh College at the University of Delhi, where he received a Bachelor of Commerce.
Shoojit Sircar Early Life
Sircar was born to Bengali-born parents in Barrackpore, Kolkata, in the Indian state of West Bengal. Both of Sircar’s parents went away in 2004, his mother from a stroke and his father from cancer.
At the Le Meridien hotel in Delhi, he began his work as an accountant before switching to the advertising industry. He made the decision to join in the film industry after attending the Delhi International Film Festival. He was inspired to pursue a career in filmmaking by the American documentary Dear America: Letters Home from Vietnam and the Indian film Pather Panchali by Satyajit Ray. Ashish Vidyarthi, Manoj Bajpaye, and Piyush Mishra were all a part of the Act One theatre group that Sircar established in the early 1990s.
The daughters of Sircar are Koyna and Anannya. Jhuma Sircar is his wife. He has made Kolkata his home along with his family. Sircar is a part of the All Stars Football Club, a team of well-known individuals that play football to support various charities.

He had success as a director in Bollywood with the films Yahaan from 2005, Vicky Donor from 2012, Madras Cafe from 2013, and Piku from 2015. He won recognition for his talent as a director after each of his movies. He has experimented in making commercial films, and his work has garnered numerous accolades. The fact that he has collaborated with almost all of India’s top advertising agencies and on products from all categories demonstrates his versatility as a director.
The director, though, has a theatre background. He keeps saying that the stage helped to define who he is. He attributes his individuality to his real desire in participating in plays rather than doing it for personal gain. He worked with a theatre group named Act One in Delhi, which he attributes for the most of his achievements.
It’s noteworthy that Yahaan, his debut film as a director, won best director at the Osian Film Festival in 2005.
Shoojit was also named best feature director at the 20th Annual Life OK Screen Awards in 2014. His upcoming movies, 1911 and Agra Ka Daabra, both of which he is currently filming, have also been widely anticipated. His favourite activities include spending time with his family and working on writing projects with his friend Juhi Chaturvedi. His wife Jhuma is the main source of his inspiration.
