Amruta was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra, on May 13, 1979. She is from a Hindu Marathi family. She is the daughter of the Late Subhash Chandra Dhembre and Jyoti Subhash. She comes from a distinguished Marathi-acting family. Her brother’s name is Jay Subhash.

She was married to her longtime partner, Sandesh Kulkarni. He is a well-known Marathi film director and playwright. They first met when Amruta was 17 years old. She had gone to Sandesh Kulkarni’s house to see Sonali Kulkarni, his sister.

Amruta Subhash Career

In 1997, she made her acting debut in the drama Urvashiam. My Fair Lady, Tee Fulrani, a production by Amruta, became well-known. In 2000, she made an appearance in the Marathi TV show “Zoka.” Her debut major project was the 2004 Marathi movie “Shwaas.” This popular film won the National Award for “Best Feature Film.” It was India’s Oscar submission for that particular year. Then, in 2004, she starred in her first Bollywood film, “Chausar.” Jata Jata Pawasane was her first album as a singer (2014).

She has made numerous appearances in Marathi plays, TV series, and movies. She and her mother have worked together on a number of movies, including “Gandha.” In this movie, her real mother played the role of her fictitious mother. Following the popularity of this movie, Bollywood made Aiyya, starring Rani Mukerji and Prithviraj Sukumaran.

She participated in the “Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Marathi” celebrity-only singing competition and finished in the Top 5. She has previous classical singing experience, and she has voiced over various movies.

She appeared in the Bollywood movies Raman Raghav 2.0 and Gully Boy. Her acting skills were valued by Gully Boy filmmaker Zoya Akhtar. She acknowledged in an interview that Zoya Akhtar rejected her for the Gully Boy role because she was so impressed with her acting.

In 2018, she made an appearance in the web series “Selection Day,” which was based on the Aravind Adiga novel. It was made by Anand Tucker and Anil Kapoor. She has appeared in a lot of movies and TV shows, but she considers theatre to be her first love. She is a social activist and the brand ambassador for Zee Marathi Jagruti.
