He worked as an assistant cinematographer for the Malayalam film “Pranayavarnangal,” which was released in 1998. Sibi Malayil directed the movie. He taught Rajeev a lot of things before he made his independent Bollywood debut in 2001. He shot the movie Chandni Bar, directed by Madhur Bhandarkar (the movie depicted the gritty life of the underworld and dance bars of Mumbai, it was a multi-starrer movie). The film was well-liked. He also made contributions to a large number of other Bollywood movies under the supervision of the incredibly talented Anurag Kashyap.

Ravi also wrote the screenplay for the movie. The film received excellent appreciation from the Malayalam cinema community. In recent years, he has also produced and directed films like Njan Steve Lopez and Kammatti Paadam.
In addition to receiving numerous honours, he was nominated for best cinematography at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards, Asia-Pacific Film Awards, and Asian Film Awards. Though very few people knew it, he used to help with the writing of the movie screenplays.
