Thugs Review: Several dance choreographers have previously transitioned into the role of director, somewhat amusing audiences with their filmmaking. Brinda is the newest name to be added to the list of directors who previously worked as dance choreographers. Hey Sinamika!, a film that Brinda previously directed, was a dismal failure at the box office.

Story
Sethu, an orphan who is charged with murder, meets new individuals in jail, including Durai, and starts a gang. With the aid of his jailhouse companions, Sethu intends to break out of the facility. A select handful, however, foil his plans. The rest of the narrative is comprised of Sethu’s backstory, why he became involved in a murder investigation, and what transpired within a jail.

Verdict
Dancing choreographers who had previously directed films made their debuts with comedic films and afterwards continued to produce commercial films. Hey Sinamaka, the lighthearted love drama that director Brinda began her film with, is now a pure mass masala fun commercial film. Before the film’s release, the producers should have told the public that it is a remake of the hugely successful Malayalam film “Swathanthryam Ardharathriyil.”
The plot of the movie Thugs is relatable to a wide audience, and all of the key characters’ backstories are well-written. With the introduction of the major characters, the movie initially seems intriguing, but it loses steam after a few minutes due to some routine jail scenes. The movie’s intermission section looks alright, but the second half’s narration drags despite a few enjoyable passages and a satisfying finish.
In terms of acting performances, Hridhu Haroon is making his Tamil/Telugu debut with this film, although he appeared competent. He needs to develop his acting abilities significantly further if he wants to stand out among the many outstanding actors in the film industry. Bobby Simha is a talented actor who appears more natural when portraying a popular role. In her limited character, Anaswara Rajan was decent. All the actors played their roles as needed for the characters, including Munishkanth, RK Suresh, and others.
Technically, the movie Thugs looks alright. Although Sam CS’s songs aren’t particularly noteworthy or outstanding, the movie’s background music is one of its positive aspects. Another notable aspect of the film is Priyesh Gurusamy’s cinematography, which transports us to the realm of “Thugs.” If a couple scenes had been cut, the editing would have been excellent. The production values are adequate.
This time, director Brinda wanted to provide a mainstream entertainment piece with undeveloped characters, and she is somewhat successful. Nevertheless, she didn’t have to remake a popular film; she might have selected an original story.
Ultimately, Thugs is a solid action thriller with all the necessary components to captivate a large theatre audience.
