Pathu Thala Review: With the tremendous success of Maanaadu and Vendhu Thanindhthu Kaadu, STR returns with the action drama Pathu Thala. The 2017 popular film Mufti by Kannda served as inspiration for this picture. Nonetheless, Pathu Thala has generated anticipation from its announcement, and when the STR look was shown, those expectations increased by a factor of two. However, carrying all this hype, the picture was finally released today, so let’s go into an in-depth review to see whether or not it’s worth seeing.
Story
Pathu Thala relates the tale of an underworld don named AG Raavanan (also known as AGR) ( Silambarasan). In order to catch AGR, the Chennai commissioner issued orders for a covert operation. In the course of this operation, an undercover cop went into the criminal underworld as a local thug and quickly became AGR’s, right-hand man. As the story progresses, the undercover cop realizes that AGR is a good man and tries to protect him from political and sand mafia enemies.

Verdict
Pathu Thala is an official remake of the Kannada blockbuster film Mufti, which was released in 2017. Although being a remake, Pathu Thala does not resemble Mufti in any way, as it features numerous new characters. Pathu Thala begins intriguingly and has a few moments that keep us intrigued for a while, but the template-based screenplay and several drawn-out situations eventually tyre you in both halves.
It is designed solely for STR fans, notwithstanding his screen presence and physical appearance. We are unimpressed by the usual action drama. OBeli N. Krishna infused the narrative with tense action, which may captivate a portion of the audience. From the beginning to the finish, the screenplay is overly predictable and fluctuates in quality. Despite its limitations, the film offers a few moments that are limited to specific audiences.
From his appearance to his body language, everything about Simbu‘s portrayal as AGR was an absolute joy for his admirers. He is competent in physical sequences but may have performed better in emotional ones. As the undercover cop, Gautham Karthik did a commendable job, particularly in a few important sequences where he was required to deliver a strong performance. As usual, Gautham Vasu Dev Menon has done an outstanding job, Priyabhavani Shankar performs adequately, and the rest of the actors did their best to fulfil the story’s requirements.
Even though OBeli N. Krishna sprinkled the film with good action sequences, his narrative failed to capture the interest of the audience. He should have considered universal as opposed to specific audiences.
Pathu Thala looks fantastic from a technical standpoint; Farook J Basha’s visuals are rather impressive; A.R. Rahman’s tracks are subpar; and his background is only partially good. The remainder of the technical crew performs well, as required by the plot.
Ultimately, Pathu Thala is a standard action drama that will appeal to a limited audience.
