Ajith made his first movie, Prema Pustagam, in 1992, when he was only 21 years old. The Tamil version of his next movie, Amaravathi, was a huge hit. His second Tamil movie, Pavithra, was 17 months late because he hurt himself racing and had to stay in bed. Both movies did very well at the box office in Tamil. Mani Rathnam made and directed his third Tamil movie, Aasai, in 1995. This was the film that put him in the spotlight in Kollywood.

Even though Ajith’s first big movie, Aasai, got a lot of attention, he didn’t become a household name in Kollywood until Agathiyan’s box office hit Vaanmathi and, more specifically, Kadhal Kottai.
