Ashutosh Gowariker Early Life
On February 15, 1964, in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, Ashutosh Gowariker was born to Ashok and Kishori Gowariker. While performing in several plays during his college years, he came to love movie acting. He then began modelling for Govind Nihalani and Jenny Pinto’s respective brands of Closeup toothpaste and Lifebuoy soap.
His wife is Sunita Gowariker, who is the daughter of actor Deb Mukherjee and the sister of Bollywood director Ayaan Mukherjee.
Ashutosh Gowariker Career
Ashutosh made his acting debut in Hindi cinema with the Ketan Mehta-directed movie Holi in 1984. Later, he appeared in movies like Woh, Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, Goonj, Chamatkar, and Bharat Ki Khoj as a lead actor. He has performed voiceover work and other acting roles in addition to his work on C.I.D. and Circus. He has also acted in a number of highly regarded Marathi movies, such as Vazir and Sarkarnama.
With the love drama Pehla Nasha, which starred Deepak Tijori, Pooja Bhatt, and Raveena Tandon, Ashutosh Gowariker made his directorial debut. The film received negative reviews and had a disastrous opening weekend. His second movie, Baazi, which starred Aamir Khan and Mamta Kulkarni, did well at the box office.
Ashutosh was the director of the cult masterpiece Lagaan from 2001. This Victorian-era production, starring Aamir Khan and Gracy Singh, broke box office records all across the world. He directed the 2008 release of Jodha Akbar, a historical romantic drama starring Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
