Azhagam Perumal Biography
Azhagam Perumal Education
Soon after graduating, he applied to the Adyar Film Institute, but his family strongly objected. Nevertheless, he received the Gold Medal and a degree from the institute in 1991. Before starting his acting career, he worked as Mani Ratnam’s assistant director for the movies Thalapathi and Iruvar. Mani Ratnam was looking for someone to play the eccentric house owner similar to Jagathy Sreekumar when he started filming Alaipayuthey. The role was eventually filled by Azhagam Perumal, who is making his film debut.
Azhagam Perumal Early Life
When he first announced Mudhal Mudhalaaga as his directorial debut in 1998, it starred Arvind Swamy and Karisma Kapoor in a romantic drama. However, the movie was not a commercial success. Then he started filming the romantic comedy Dumm Dumm Dumm, for which Mani Ratnam functioned as both producer and screenwriter, starring R. Madhavan and Jyothika.
With Vijay and Simran in the key parts, Udhaya was released after a protracted wait. After then, in 2001, the movie was released to great success. He once approached him about playing a part in Alaipayuthe, but the actor declined since he was focused on finishing and reviving Udhaya by the start of 2004.

From Thalapathi to Iruvar, Azhagam Perumal helped Mani Ratnam before he left to work on a separate project. When filming Alaipayuthey, Mani Ratnam was looking for someone to play the eccentric house owner similar to Jagathy Sreekumar, but Azhagam Perumal eventually filled the part and made his acting debut. His 1998 love story Mudhal Mudhalaaga, starring Arvind Swamy and Karisma Kapoor, was previously billed as his directorial debut. Even though filming had begun, the project was placed on hold indefinitely.
Then, in 1999, he started filming Udhaya, a movie with Vijay and Simran, but it wasn’t finished until later because of the producer’s financial issues. Azhagam Perumal also explored making the film Hijack in 2000, but nothing came of it. He tried to create the movie with Vikram in 2004, but the effort failed.
He eventually made his directorial debut with the romantic comedy Dumm Dumm Dumm, starring R. Madhavan and Jyothika and produced by his role model Mani Ratnam. When it was released in 2001, the film was a success. After Alaipayuthey, he was approached about acting roles, but he declined them in order to finish and resurrect Udhaya before the start of 2004.
