'Dikkiloona' to 'Jai Bhim': 8 Tamil films Coming on OTT soon

With ‘Dikkiloona’ reportedly fetching between Rs 20 crore, many more big films are expected to go in for direct OTT release. Ever since theatres closed in this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, several films have opted for a direct OTT release. So far, from the south, Ponmagal Vandhal (Tamil), Penguin (Tamil), Cocktail (Tamil), Danny (Tamil), Lockup (Tamil), Uma Maheswara Ugra Roopasya (Telugu), Nishabdham (Telugu), V (Telugu), Sufiyum Sujatayum (Malayalam), French Biriyani (Kannada), Law (Kannada) are among the films to have released across OTT platforms.

The OTT list includes small budget flicks along with high budget most awaited films. Even the theaters opened across Tamil Nadu with 50% occupancy, there are no signs that the pandemic coming under control and an effective vaccine still months away. So, several more Tamil films are opting for a direct OTT release, including big budget films. Kollywood has already started the release of films with big names in the cast like Ponmagal Vandhal, Soorarai Pottru, Penguin, Navarasa, etc.

‘Dikkiloona’ to ‘Jai Bhim’: Eight Tamil films Coming on OTT soon

#1 Dikkiloona

Santhanam’s much awaited Tamil film directed by Karthik Yogi and produced by KJR studios Kotapadi J Rajesh is finally heading for a release on ZEE5 after months of speculation. If industry sources and reports are to be believed, the film was bought by the OTT platform for Rs 20 crore. Also starring Yogi Babu, Anagha, Shirin Kanchwala, Harbhajan Singh, Anand Raj, Munish Kanth and others.

#2 Annabelle Sethupathi

Shot during the lockdown, Annabelle Sethupathi is a original Tamil film directed by Deepak Sundarrajan has FVijay Sethupathi, Taapsee Pannu, Jagapathi Babu, Rajendra Prasad, Radhika Sarathkumar, Yogi Babu and others in the cast. The story will be told entirely through a Raj Mahal. The film will release on Disney+ Hotstar on September 17.

#3 Tughlaq Durbar

Touted to be a Political Thriller, Tughlaq Durbar starring Vijay Sethupathi, Manjima Mohan, Raashii Khanna and many more available on 11th September, on Netflix.

#4 Kadaisi Vivasayi

The film has a 85-year-old farmer, Nallandi, as protagonist, with Vijay Sethupathi in the supporting cast. Directed by M Manikandan of Kakka Muttai fame, Manikandan is also the producer, cinematographer and script-writer of the film. The movie would have direct OTT release on SonyLiv.

#5 Jai Bhim

The makers of Suriya’s Jai Bhim have confirmed that the film will choose the way to OTT. Director Gnanavel’s legal drama ‘Jai Bhim’ also stars actor Rajisha Vijayan and is produced by Jyotika and Suriya under their home banner 2D Entertainment. Jai Bhim is set to premiere on Over-the-top (OTT) platform Amazon Prime Video in November this year.

#6 Udanpirappe

Era Saravanan directorial Udanpirappe will be premiering in October. Based on the life of siblings–Vairavan and Mathangi, the movie stars actors Sasikumar and Jyotika in the lead. Udanpirappe has music by Imman.

#7 Oh my doG

Helmed by Sarov Shanmugam, Oh my doG is set to premiere in December this year. The movie stars Arun Vijay in the lead. Meanwhile, Arisil Moorthy’s directorial Raman Aandalum Ravanan Aandalum will be available from September this year. Further details about each one of the projects are awaited.

#8 Raame Aandalum Raavane Aandalum

An Amazon Prime Video Original, Raame Aandalum Raavane Aandalum aka RARA is an 2022 Tamil Movie, Written and Directed by Arisil Moorthy. The movie features Mithun Manickam, Ramya Pandian and Vani Bhojan in lead roles Produced by Suriya and Jyothika under the banner 2D Entertainment.
