In the same vein as his son, Javed Akhtar Sr. is a well-known lyricist and screenwriter. Farhan’s mother Honey Irani is a writer and a movie star. His older sister, Zoya Akhtar, is a well-known Indian screenwriter and director. Shabana Azmi, a Bollywood star and Farhan’s stepmother, has worked in the business for many years. His maternal aunt is veteran Indian actress Daisy Irani, and Farah Khan, a well-known choreographer and director, is one of Farhan’s first cousins.

When he was only 17 years old, he worked as a trainee in the cinematography and direction departments on Yash Chopra’s movie Lamhe. After that, he worked as a producer for the advertising company “Script Shop” for nearly three years. He worked with Pankaj Parashar as an assistant director on the set of the Bollywood film Himalay Putra. He co-founded Excel Entertainment, a production company, with Indian film producer Ritesh Sidhwani in 1999.

He wrote and directed “Dil Chahta Hai,” his debut feature film, which went on to win the National Film Award. “Don: The Chase Begins Again,” his first film as a producer, was released in 2008. His production and directing credits include Don 2: The King Is Back (2011), Fukrey (2013), and Dil Dhadakne Do (2015), to name a few.
He made his acting and singing debuts in “Rock On!” from 2008. Karthik Calling Karthik (2010), Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011), Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013), and Toofan are just a few Bollywood productions that he appeared in.
