Funky Movie Review: Anudeep Style One-Liners, But Is It Enough?

Mass Ka Das Vishwak Sen starrer Funky finally hit the screens today. The makers have aggressively promoted the film, and director Anudeep KV’s fame has also helped create curiosity among the audience. Let’s see whether this film lives up to the expectations or not.

The story is not novel. In fact, there is no proper story in the film. It is filled with one-liners. Unfortunately, only a few one-liners land well, but most of them fail to create an impact. Every character tries to imitate Anudeep’s style, including Vishwak Sen, and that creates a disconnect with the film.

We all know Anudeep’s films usually do not focus much on story and mainly depend on one-liners. But when it comes to Funky, most of the one-liners seem forced.

The film starts well, but as it moves forward, it loses momentum due to sluggish narration and pathetic editing. However, the second half is much better. Though the screenplay ebbs and flows, the one-liners work better in this half.

There are also a few cameo appearances in the film. Those cameos became the saving grace for a while and brought some much-needed energy to the narrative.

Overall, Funky is an average comedy film. If you are a fan of Anudeep’s one-liners, you can give it a try.
