Guru Somasundaram Career

Guru Somasundaram has a deep love for theatre from his early years. Guru joined the renowned Chennai theatre group “Koothu-P-Pattarai” after completing college in 2002 to develop his acting skills and get ready for a career in acting. He joined a theatre group and performed in several of their productions. He got the attention of filmmaker Thiagarajan Kumararaja while playing the part of Chandrahari in a stage production of Chandrahari. The director was so impressed by his performance that he granted him a part in one of his upcoming films.

Guru was cast in Thiagarajan’s 2008 neo-noir film “Aaranya Kaandam” as the year went on. The phrase “Jungle Chapter” in this context refers to a passage from the epic Ramayana that served as the basis for the film. In addition to Guru, the movie also stars Jackie Shroff, Ravi Krishna, Sampath Raj, Yasmin Ponnappa, and Master Vasanth. Guru played one of the six main characters. Guru received praise for the role of Kaalayan, a bumbling alcoholic, in the movie.

According to Guru, who claimed to have shed seven kg, he altered his appearance to better fit the character’s traits, including his hairstyle, moustache, walking patterns, body language, and mannerisms. After its June 10, 2011, release, “Aaranya Kaandam” went on to win numerous honours both domestically and internationally. These include the Best Film Grand Jury Award from the 2010 South Asian International Film Festival as well as the National Film Awards’ prizes for Best Editing and Best First Film of a Director.

A piece written and released by Rediff.com is just one of the media sites that praised Guru for his performance in the movie. 2013 saw the release of the Tamil drama “Kadal,” starring Guru Somasundaram, Gautham Karthik, Arjun, Aravind Swamy, and Lakshmi Manchu. A excellent illustration of this is the Mani Ratnam movie about a Christian fisherman who teaches that faith can occasionally result in human victory. Kovil Kutty is a supporting character in the movie, and Guru played him. Later, he appeared in supporting roles in the Tamil and Malayalam films “5 Sundarikal,” “Pandiya Naadu,” “Jigarthanda,” “49-O,” “Bench Talkies – The First Bench,” “Thoongaa Vanam,” and “Kohinoor.”

The Tamil-language political satire movie “Joker,” directed by Raju Murugan, provided Guru Somasundaram with his professional breakthrough. The movie, which was released on August 12, 2016, tells the story of Mannar Mannan, a common villager who declares himself the nation’s president and campaigns against the injustices he observes in his society, most notably the lack of indoor plumbing in rural areas.

Alongside Ramya Pandian and Gayathri Krishnaa, Guru played the role of Mannar Mannan, and his performance was praised. At the 64th National Film Awards, the movie won two prizes, both for Best Feature Film in Tamil. Guru Somasundaram received the Gold Medal in 2017 for being named Behindwoods’ Best Actor.

After this, many more films, including Yaakkai, Paambhu Sattai, Odu Raja Odu, and Kuttrame Thandanai, were commercial successes.
