Harris Jayaraj was born and reared in Chennai by a devout Christian family. His father is a Tamil Christian, while his mother is a Hindu Naidu. He went to study at Krishnaswamy Matric School. At the age of six, Harris began formal instruction in Carnatic music. The Soolamangalam Sisters, K. J. Yesudas, S. Janaki, Shankar Ganesh, S.P. Balasubramaniam, K. V.
