George Parecattil and Rosy George, parents of Joju George, are natives of the Mala neighbourhood in Thrissur. When he was younger, he went to Kuzhur’s GHS. Christ College, Irinjalakuda prepared him well for a career as an assistant director in the film industry (1997). He wed Abba Joju in 2008, and they have three children together: Ian, Sarah, and Ivan.

In 1995, Joju made his acting debut in a supporting role in the film Mazhavilkoodaram. Thanks to a series of supporting roles in the 2000s and 2010s, he achieved fame. At the 2015 Kerala State Film Award presentation, he received a Special Mention for his supporting roles in Oru Second Class Yathra and Lukka Chuppi. The part of Joseph in Joseph (2018, M. Padmakumar, dir.) was the defining one of his career. In it, he played a retired police officer who investigates a personal case while facing his own problems. In the same year that he won the Best Actor award for Joseph, Joju received the Best Character Actor award for Chola. The picture was singled out for praise in that year’s National Film Awards as well. Porinju Mariam Jose, Halal Love Story, Jagame Thanthiram, Pada, and Aviyal are only few of the subsequent films in this genre. For his work in the films Nayattu, Madhuram, and Freedom Fight that year, he won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor. By 2022, he will have worked on more than a hundred movies.
In addition to his responsibilities as an actor and producer, Joju has also been recognised for his work as a playback vocalist for the songs Paadavarambathiloode from Joseph, Chandrakaladharane from Adrishyam, and Kallatharam from Peace.
With Dhanush as his co-star, he made his acting debut in the 2022 Netflix film Jagame Thanthiram, directed by Karthik Subbaraj. His second Tamil role was in the Amazon Original Series Mouname Paarvayaai, which was featured in the Tamil anthology Putham Pudhu Kaalai Vidiyaadhaa. That caused more people to take notice of him. Known for his work in the Malayalam films Madhuram, Freedom Fight, Thuramukham, and Naayattu, he was named best actor at the 2022 Kerala State Film Awards. Nayattu earned him the honour of Best Actor in a Supporting Role at the 67th Filmfare Awards South 2022.
Joju has produced the films Charlie (2015), Udaharanam Sujatha (2017), Joseph (2018), Chola (2019), Porinju Mariam Jose (2019), and Madhuram (2019). His formal production firm, Appu Pathu Pappu, debuted with Joseph and has since created two further films starring him: Chola and Porinju Mariam Jose.
