He enrolled at Delhi University in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree. After India was divided into two countries, Kulbhushan’s family moved from Pakistan to India. He and his family lived in several different American cities due to his father’s job, which frequently required relocation. Kulbhushan attended schools in Jodhpur, Aligarh, Dehradun, and Delhi throughout his academic career. Kulbhushan stated in an interview that he was accepted to the National School of Drama but chose not to enrol due to the alumni of the NSD having a poor success rate.

Maheshwari Devi Kharbanda and Kulbhushan Kharbanda were married on December 8th, 1965. On October 21, 1944, a Saturday, he was born. The couple resided in Hasan Abdal, Punjab, British India’s Attock District. Maheshwari, a child of Rajasthan’s Maharaja Ram Singh II of Pratapgarh, was the first wife of the Maharaja of Kotah.

Kulbhushan Kharbanda Career

In the 1974 movie Nishant, Bollywood filmmaker Shyam Benegal offered him his first leading part. He portrayed Officer Patel in the film. His breakthrough performance came as the bald antagonist Shakaal in Ramesh Sippy’s 1980 film Shaan. In the action drama film Ghulami from 1985, he portrayed Havaldar Gopi Dada. His work in this part helped him become an overnight success and earned him a nomination for a Filmfare Award in 1986 for Best Supporting Actor.

He received praise for his performance as Raja Veer Bharmal, Jodhaa’s father, in the historical drama Jodha Akbar from 2008. Particularly significant was Kulbhushan’s role in the national award-winning 2001 film Lagaan. For his performance as Raja Puran Singh Chawla, he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the 2002 IIFA Awards.

2018 saw Kulbhushan play Satyanand Tripathi, also known by his alias Bauji, in seasons one and two of the action-crime-thriller web series Mirzapur on Amazon Prime. Yeh Hai Mere Apne, a drama series on ZEE TV that premiered in 1997, featured Kulbhushan’s debut on television. He portrayed Karim Chand Seth, Lata’s Nanaji, in the BBC Television drama web series A Suitable Boy in 2020.
