After a string of dud movies like Ingane Oru Nilapakshi, Prem Poojari, and Sahayathrikakku Snehapoorvam, Kunchacko took a break from the movie business. During his break, the actor got married. He didn’t make a comeback to acting until 2008, when he appeared in a song for Shafi’s LollyPop. V. K. Prakash made a comeback to the big screen with the crime comedy Gulumaal: The Escape, which was a commercial success and brought him back into the public eye. The success of the movie opened the door for him to go on to direct a string of successful films, including Mummy & Me, Sakudumbam Shyamala, Traffic, 3 Kings and Sevenes, and Doctor Love. He received the “Youth Icon of the Year” award at the Asianet Film Awards in 2011.

After his comeback, Kunchacko ditched his chocolate boy persona and took on humorous, negative, and serious parts. Additionally, he made an appearance in Dr. Biju’s movie Valiya Chirakulla Pakshikal, which was filmed in the Endosulfan-devastated villages of Northern Kerala. The movie was screened at the UN as well as at film festivals like the New York Indian Film Festival and the Toronto Film Festival. At the yearly National Film Awards, the movie ultimately won the gold medal for “Best Film on Environment Conservation/Preservation.”
