Before making his screenwriting debut in the Telugu film industry in 1988, he spent 20 years writing plays and performing with the Mahati Theatre Society (founded by his siblings and a few friends). Sriram has written dialogue for more than 40 films, including “April 1st Vidudhala,” “Appula Appa Rao,” “Vaarasudu,” “Hello Brother,” “Hitler,” “Arundhati,” “Bhagyalakshmi Bumper Draw,” and dozens more. The Telugu film “Sontha Ooru,” in which he also acted, earned him the Nandi Award for Best Character Actor in 2009 and the Nandi Award for Best Dialogue Writer in 1999.

He started out with bit parts in films and eventually chose to pursue acting full-time. In 1999, when E. V. V. Satyanarayana’s “Chala Bagundi” was published, he finally found success. In 2000, he received another Nandi Award for Best Male Comedian for his hilarious turn in the film. In addition, he was cast in a film version of Sriram’s play, “Onteddubandi,” titled “Ammo Okato Tareekhu,” in which he played the lead role.

He has since appeared in numerous films, including Itlu Sravani Subramanyam, Chinna, Hanuman Junction, Avunu Valliddaru Ista Paddaru, Thotti Gang, Dil, Missamma, Mr. & Mrs. Sailajakrishnamurthy, Radha Gopalam, Subhas Chandra Bose, Chatrapathi, Lakshmi, Happy, Baladur, and Happy New Year. He was recently seen in “A Shyam Gopal Varma Film,” a satirical comedy film directed by Rakesh Srinivas.
