His father, Vrijbhushan Sharma, died in 2019 from illnesses that come with getting old. Padma Sharma, his mother, died from a heart attack. Those are his two brothers. He met Indian actress Ashwini Kalsekar, who at the time was getting a divorce from her first husband, Nitesh Pandey, while they were both working on the 2005 Hindi movie “Apaharan.” Murali and Ashwini became close as they worked on the movies, and they eventually fell in love. On March 22, 2009, they got married. He got a Bachelor of Arts in acting from the Roshan Taneja Acting School in Mumbai. He is married to actress Ashwini Kalsekar.

After he finished his acting training, he started trying out for different TV shows and movies. In 1997, he had a small role as Doctor Salim in the Hindi TV show “Ghar Jamai.” After that, he was in a number of Hindi TV shows, such as “Saaya,” “Rishtey,” “Laagi Tujhse Lagan,” and “Paltan Meri Shaan.”

He made his acting debut in the 2002 Hindi movie “Dil Vil Pyar Vyar.” He originally got acclaim for his performance as Devsare in the 2003 Hindi film “Maqbool.” Both the audience and the reviewers liked his portrayal of Khan in the 2004 Hindi film “Main Hoon Na,” which is still highly popular today.
Following that, he appeared in a few more Hindi movies, including “Masti” (2004), “Mangal Pandey: The Rising” (2005), “Apaharan” (2005), and “Dhamaal.” He made his Telugu acting debut in the 2007 movie “Athidhi,” in which he played Qaiser/Ajay Sastry.
