Neena Gupta was born in Delhi on June 4, 1959. Neena is a member of the Hindu Gupta family. She grew up with the late R. N. Gupta. Shakuntala Gupta, her mother, passed away from cancer. A man by the name of Pankaj Gupta is her sibling.

She married a young Calcutta guy, age 16, whose education includes time spent at IIT Delhi, when she was just 16 years old. Sadly, their relationship barely lasted two years before it ended. On the set of a television serial in the 1980s, she had her first encounter with seasoned actor Alok Nath. According to reports, they had had an engagement but later broke up.

In the late 1980s, she started dating Vivian Richards, a legendary West Indies cricket player. The couple had a committed relationship for almost 13 years. She and he are wed, and their 1989-born daughter is their only child. The daughter of Neena and Vivian is the well-known Indian fashion designer Masaba Gupta. Even though Neena and Vivian Richards never got married, they are still close friends.

She started her acting career in 1982 after graduating from the National School of Drama. Saath Saath, a Bollywood movie from 1982, gave her her first acting job. She gained notoriety the same year when she was chosen to play Abha in the blockbuster movie Gandhi.

She eventually established herself as a recurring character in Bollywood blockbusters such as Mandi (1983), Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron (1983), Rihaee (1988), Swarg (1990), and Drishti (1990). (1993).
