Nikhil began his career as an assistant director on the film Hyderabad Nawabs. He appeared in a number of films before starring in Happy Days, the first Tollywood film to have an overseas release date before the Indian premiere. Nikhil played the son of a Legislative Assembly member in the film, which was directed by Sekhar Kammula, a National Award winner. Happy Days was one of the few low-budget films released in 2007 that was able to attain massive box office success.
