Pooja Hegde was raised in Mumbai, Maharashtra, and comes from a Tulu-speaking family. Her proud parents are Manjunath and Latha Hegde. They were raised and born in the Karnataka city of Udupi. She also gains from having Rishabh Hegde, an orthopedic surgeon, as an older sibling. In addition to Tulu, she is also fluent in Kannada, English, Hindi, and Marathi. She realized she needed to learn Telugu once she started working in the industry. She participated actively in both the dance and fashion scenes while attending M. M. K. College.
Hegde took home the Miss India Talented 2009 crown, but she was eliminated early from Miss India 2009 competition. The following year, she gave it another shot and finished second in the Miss Universe India 2010 pageant. She also took home the Miss India South Glamorous Hair 2010 title.

In 2009, she participated in Miss India. She was expelled from the island, though. The following step was her participation in Miss Universe India, where she finished second that year. In 2010, she has crowned Miss India South Glamorous Hair.
She made her acting debut in 2012 alongside Jiiva in Mysskin’s Tamil superhero movie Mugamoodi. She and Naga Chaitanya co-starred in the Telugu movie Oka Laila Kosam, which was released in 2014. Pooja Hegde received a nomination for Best Actress at the 62nd Filmfare Awards South in honor of her outstanding work. In 2014’s Mohenjo Daro, she made her Bollywood debut alongside Hrithik Roshan.
