Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra was born in Delhi, India, on July 7, 1963. He established Flicks Motion Picture Limited in 1986 and started creating television commercials for brands like Toyota, Pepsi, Coke, BPL, and American Express.

Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra made his directing debut with the 2001 spooky film Aks. Amitabh Bachchan, Raveena Tandon, Nandita Das, and Manoj Bajpayee were all praised for their performances, but the movie struggled at the box office.
In order to independently produce movies, he established ROMP (Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra Pictures) in 2004. His debut movie under that banner was the coming-of-age Indian drama Rang De Basanti. The movie, which starred Aamir Khan, Siddharth Narayan, Soha Ali Khan, Kunal Kapoor, R.
