When Varma was two years old, his family moved from East Godavari District in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh to Hyderabad. After high school, he went to the Chaitanya Bharathi Institute of Technology in Hyderabad to study engineering. He then moved to New York to get his master’s degree and start working for Rediff. Varma decided to take a three-month course at the New York Film Academy to improve his skills as a filmmaker. In the 2005 movie Vennela, he played the role of Syed. His first Tamil movie role was in Sathya, which was a remake of Kshanam.

In 2005, he made his acting debut in the movie “Vennela.” In that movie, he played Syed, a young Muslim man. The success of his first album gave him a chance to try other things. Then he decided to become an actor and moved to Hyderabad. Gopichand gave him the lead role in the movie Nuvve.
