Santosh won his first National Award as a director in 1988 for his film The Story of Tiblu. His film Halo won Best Children’s Film and Best Sound at the 43rd Annual National Picture Awards.
Santosh made history when he became the first cinematographer from the Asia-Pacific region to join the ASC. As a cinematographer, he has taken home five National Film Awards, including four for Best Feature Film Cinematography. His work has earned him a total of 22 honors as of 2014, including 11 from the National Film Critics Circle and 11 from other prestigious organizations. He received the Padma Shri award in 2014 for his contributions to Indian film.
A well-known cinematographer who has established himself in the South Indian film business, particularly in Malayalam cinema, is Santosh Sivan.
