Shukla was born in Gorakhpur to Shatrughan Shukla, an Agra Gharana singer, and Jogamaya Shukla, the country’s first female tabla player. His family relocated to Delhi when he was two years old. The state of Uttar Pradesh in India contains the lovely and populated city of Gorakhpur. When Saurabh Shukla finished his formal education, he began his early career as a film director.

In 1986, Shukla made his stage debut in a number of plays, including Hayvadan, Ghashiram Kotwal, Look Back in Anger, A View from the Bridge, and Arthur Miller’s A View from the Bridge. He enrolled at the National School of Drama’s professional division, the NSD Repertoire Company, in 1991 to advance his acting career.
