Up until the fourth grade, Shahid Kapoor attended Gyan Bharati in Delhi and Rajhans Vidyalaya in Mumbai for his primary education. After that, he graduated from Mumbai’s Mithibai College.

Ishaan Khattar is his half-brother because his mother wedded actor Rajesh Khattar.

As a young artist, he made his debut on-screen appearance in the Complan commercial alongside the actress Ayesha Takia. He began studying dance at the age of 15 at Shiamak Davar’s dance school, and as a background dancer, he has performed in various Bollywood movies like Dil To Pagal Hai (1997) and Taal (1999). Shiamak Davar was impressed by his excellent dancing abilities and hired him as a teacher at his dance studio. He appeared in various TV commercials at the time, including those for Pepsi, Close-Up, Kit Kat, etc.
Shahid worked as an assistant director on the television series Mohandas B.A.L.L.B., which his father produced and directed in 1998. He has appeared in a variety of music videos, such as Aankhon Mein from 1999 and Mera Dil Bole Piya Piya from 1999, among others.
He made his acting debut in the 2003 Bollywood film Ishq Vishk, playing Rajiv Mathur, the movie’s protagonist. The actress who played his mother in the movie was his real mother.
