On February 3, 1983, Silambarasan “Simbu” Thesingu Rajendar, better known by his stage as S. T. R., was born in India. He can act, direct, dance, write songs and music, and interpret Tamil. He started out as a child actor in his father T. Rajendar’s films before stepping into the lead role in Kadhal Azhivathillai (2002), which he directed and his mother Usha produced.

Silambarasan is a frequent performer in the role of background vocalist in the Tamil film industry. Prior to appearing in Sonnal Thaan Kaadhala, he recorded over sixty songs for a variety of songwriters. Famous for his roles in the films “Kovil,” “Vallavan,” and “Manmadhan,” he then played the lead in the highly regarded film “Silambattam.” A major hit, “Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa” was released in 2010 and featured Simbu.
