Sriram was raised in Mumbai, Maharashtra, in a Tamil household. He was nurtured by his film enthusiast mother and his father, a botanist.

After earning his degree from FTII, Sriram directed the suspenseful movie Ek Hasina Thi in 2004. Raman Raghav, the director’s previous film, was well-liked by Ram Gopal Varma. The movie, which starred Urmila Matondkar and Saif Ali Khan, was written and directed by Sriram. The main character in Ek Hasina Thi is Sarika (Urmila Matondkar), a woman who seeks retribution from those who wrecked her life, particularly Karan (Saif Ali Khan). In the movie, Kavita Kaushik, Aditya Srivastava, and Seema Biswas all had significant roles.
After a three-year hiatus, Sriram made a comeback to the thriller subgenre in 2007 with the release of Johnny Gaddaar, a film starring Neil Nitin Mukesh with Dharmendra, Zakir Hussain, Rimi Sen, Vinay Pathak, and Ashwini Kalsekar. Everyone was taken aback by the movie’s unexpected critical and financial success. Both the Malayalam version Unnam and the Telugu variant Kamina are adaptations. The movie received the Filmfare Award for Best Sound Design and the Star Guild Award for Best Actor in a Negative Role for Neil Nitin Mukesh in addition to Mukesh’s nominations for Stardust Superstar of Tomorrow Male and Star Screen Award for Most Promising Newcomer Male.
With Agent Vinod, which starred Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Prem Chopra, Adil Hussain, Ravi Kishan, and Ram Kapoor, Sriram made his directorial debut the next year, in 2012. The movie depicts an agent who sets out on a covert assignment to look into a colleague’s death but is astonished to find a vast conspiracy. Because of its appealing music, the movie Agent Vinod was eagerly anticipated, but it ultimately failed both critically and financially.
The directors released the movie in 2016. Badlapur stands out as a career peak among his several works that have received high praise. Alongside Varun Dhawan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Huma Qureshi, Yami Gautam, Vinay Pathak, Divya Dutta, and Radhika Apte starred in this action thriller. The movie was favourably received by critics for its portrayal of a man seeking retribution for the death of his family and did quite well at the box office. In addition to giving the movie high grades, critics praised the film for its superb storyline and standout performances. The movie received 15 Stardust Award nominations overall, including Best Film at the 61st Filmfare Awards. Sriram’s 2016 compilation of seven short films, Shor Se Shuruaat, was released.
