Vijay started his secondary school at Fathima Matriculation Higher Secondary School but then transferred to Balalok Matriculation Higher Secondary School. After graduating from high school, Vijay decided to further his education by enrolling at Loyola University Maryland and majoring in visual communications. However, he stopped going to school so he could devote more time to acting. At the age of 10, he made his acting debut in the film Vetri, directed by his father S. A. Chandrasekhar.
