Manjunatha Rao and Anusuya were his parents. He was the younger brother of Sudheendra Rao, the elder son of his parents. Rao’s family was not wealthy. His ability to roll his eyes was the result of an eye condition he had as a kid, which was visible in scenes from many of his films.
