Indian director of photography V.Manikandan was born on January 13, 1968, in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. His sibling V. Jeevananthan, for his book Thiraicheelai on Cinema, has received a National Film Award. He filled in as the cinematographer for several important Bollywood and Tamil movies. He has filmed more than 3,000 commercials and is well known in the business for his work.

His acting career got its start in Tamil movies. Atharman, a 1994 Tamil film, was his debut feature. He subsequently spent the following two years performing in the Tamil movies Mr. Romeo (1996), Sengottai (1996), and Sarigamapathani (1997).

Manikandan released an album called Sree Rudra in 1995 as well. With the 1997 Malayalam movie Asuravamsam, he made his directorial debut. He played significant roles in the Hindi blockbusters Kuch Naa Kaho (2003) and Main Hoon Na (2004), respectively. A Filmfare Award for Best Cinematography in a Tamil Film was given to Manikandan’s cinematography in 2005. He appeared in the Hindi movie Om Shanti Om, which was nominated for a Filmfare Award in 2007.
