Suresh Gopi made his acting debut in 1965’s Odayil Ninnu, playing a minor part. He then made his adult acting debut in the 1986 movie Niramulla Raavukal, although his part went unnoticed. In T. P. Balagopalan M. A., he initially attracted public attention as a prospective groom (1986). Suresh Gopi starred in numerous supporting roles as well as a few villainous ones throughout the 1980s and 1990s. He had the role of the antagonist in the movie Irupatham Noottandu (1987). It was the most popular Malayalam movie ever at the time. He portrayed Harry, a crucial supporting role, in Oru CBI Diary Kurippu, the top grossing film of 1988. Gopi’s humorous portrayal of Sub Inspector Minnal Prathapan in Manu Uncle (1988) has grown renowned over time. His portrayal of Dr. Narendran in Padmarajan’s 1990 film Innale (1990) was praised by both fans and reviewers as one of his best performances.

A lot of people praised Gopi for his role as Aromal Chekavar in the renowned 1989 movie Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha. He made another famous cameo as the humorous professional killer Christopher Luke in Nagarangalil Chennu Raparkam (1989).
