R. Rathnavelu Early Life

Rathnavelu first experienced daylight in the city of Chennai. He took three years to complete both his certificate in film technology for cinematography and his bachelor’s degree in physics after leaving the M.G.R. Government Film and Television Training Institute. He then collaborated with Rajeev Menon, the film’s director, on the Mani Ratnam movie Bombay.

R. Rathnavelu Career

His debut film was “Aravindhan,” a Tamil movie. Although he also made an appearance in the Hindi film David, he is best known for his roles in Tamil movies. For his work on “Nandha,” he received the Tamil Nadu State Film Award and the Filmfare Award for Best Cinematography. He received a second Filmfare and Vijay Award in 2010 for “Enthiran” as Best Cinematographer.

His most recent work for the film “Lingaa” has drawn a lot of interest. Rathnavelu started his career as Rajiv Menon’s assistant after graduating from FTI, where he contributed to numerous advertisements. Rathnavelu left the crew of Rajiv Menon’s visually stunning movie “Bombay” and struck out on his own. He stands out for his creative thinking and eagerness to try new things. In the movie “Sethu,” the gloomy green color was chosen to conjure up the vibe of a mental institution. For achieving something that had never been done before, he naturally garnered accolades. His movies always provide something new to view.

He claimed that Mani Ratnam and P.C. Sreeram were his idols in the world of filmmaking. Growing up, he was often drawn outside to take pictures with a straightforward still camera. He hopes to start directing soon given his history of collaborating with the best filmmakers in the business. He declined lucrative offers from the Bollywood industry in favor of dominating the Tollywood sector. R. Rathnavelu has come a long way from the time when he idolized his contemporaries and aspired to be like them in his career.
