Mahesh Bhatt began his career in the business by making advertisements for various goods. He met the movie’s director, Raj Khosla, through a mutual friend, and soon found himself working for Khosla. His first full-length film was Manzilein Aur Bhi Hain (1974), which he also directed.

In 1984, he oversaw the release of “Naam,” his first big-budget film. His work can be seen in many movies, such as Janam (1985), Saaransh (1984), Aashiqui (1990), Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin (1991), Sir (1993), Zakhm (1998), and Sadak (2000). His final project as a director was Kartoos (1999), after which he turned exclusively to writing. His subsequent movie, “Sadak 2,” marked his return to directing. His debut on television came in 1995 with the broadcast of Swabhimaan on DD National.

His first screenplay, “Arth,” was released in 1982. After a successful career, he gave up directing to write the screenplay for “Sangharsh (1999).” He wrote the screenplays for the Bollywood movies Dushman (1998), Raaz (2002), Murder (2004), Gangster (2006), Woh Lamhe (2006), and Hamari Adhuri Kahani (2006).

With the 1996 movie Papa Kehte Hai, he made his directorial debut alongside Amit Khanna. The production company Visesh Films is run by him and his brother Mukesh Bhatt. The company’s name was inspired by Vishesh Bhatt, a producer and Mukesh Bhatt’s son.
