Srijit Mukherji Biography
Srijit Mukherji Education
Mukherji finished his education at Dolna Day School and South Point High School in Kolkata before enrolling at Presidency College to study economics. He continued to work as a social scientist with TERI in New Delhi’s Urban Transport and Pollution Sector while also obtaining his MA and M.Phil in environmental economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University. In his first year, he dropped out of the doctoral programme to work as an econometrician and business analyst at IRI Symphony in Bangalore. After working in Bangalore and briefly living in Milan, he quit his job to focus solely on theatre and film.

At India’s 62nd National Film Awards, he won the National Film Award for Best Direction and Best Original Screenplay for his sixth movie, Chotushkone. His eighth film, Rajkahini, was transformed into the Vidya Balan–starring 2017 Hindi blockbuster Begum Jaan. His 2018 film Ek Je Chhilo Raja won the “Best Bengali Film Award” at India’s 66th National Film Awards. At the 67th National Film Awards, he received the Best Bengali Film and Best Adapted Screenplay Awards for his 2019 film Gumnaami.
