From 2005 to 2007, she pursued a theatre arts degree at the Thrissur School of Drama. She studied physical theatre for her final two years of college at L’École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq.
Kani Kusruti Early Life
In the Keralan village of Cheruvakkal, Kani was born to social activists and rationalists Jayasree A. K. and Maitreya Maitreyan. Her parents had altered it to avoid the social status symbol that a family surname in India connotes.
When she was 15 and in need of a last name for the application for the class 10th exam, she made up the name “Kusruti,” which in Malayalam means “mischievous.” She was born and reared in Thiruvananthapuram, where the Abhinaya Theatre Research Centre served as her first introduction to “a shared arena for theatre practitioners.” After that, she moved to Thrissur, where she spent the years 2005–2007 studying theatre arts at the Thrissur School of Drama. In the 2003 Malayalam film Anyar, Kani Kusruti made her acting debut as a bus passenger. In the 2009 anthology movie Kerala Cafe, she portrayed Zeba. She portrayed the prostitute Elsa in the movie Cocktail in 2010. In the 2013 romance comedy Oru Indian Pranayakadha, she portrayed SP Jayalakshmi IPS. Despite Drishyam’s rivalry, it was a surprise success. The next year, she portrayed an AGS officer in the political satire Masala Republic.
She portrayed Sudalai’s and Bhairavadu’s mother in the 2017 action movie Spyder. She appeared in Tamil for the short film Maa in 2018, where she played Sathya. She portrayed Khadeeja in the Malayalam drama movie Biriyaani during the year 2020. She portrayed Monalisa Paul in the 2022 Hindi philosophical science fiction film Ok Computer.
