They made their home in New Delhi, where in 1981 they had their lone child, Shahid Kapoor. In 1984, the couple got a divorce. Actress Supriya Pathak and Pankaj Kapur were married in 1988. Sanah Kapur is their only daughter, and Ruhaan Kapur is their only son.

Shyam Benegal, who directed Arohan, was the man behind the camera. He played Pyarelal Nayyar, Mahatma Gandhi’s second secretary, in Richard Attenborough’s Gandhi the following year, in 1982. He filled in for Ben Kingsley in the Hindi version of the movie.
