After attending St. James School, Chakraborty went on to Presidency University to complete his degree.
Pritam Chakraborty Early Life
Pritam Chakraborty was born to Bengali parents Anuradha and Prabodh Chakraborty on June 14, 1971. His father was a musician, so he received his initial instruction in music from him and began learning how to play the guitar while still in school.
He studied and mastered the Tabla, Guitar, and Keyboard while honing his voice. In 1994, he received his diploma from India’s Film and Television Institute in Pune, and soon after, he received a request to write the score for a Hungarian movie.
Pritam Chakraborty Career
Pritam is currently performing with Chandrabindoo, a Bangla band. He joined his Presidency classmates in starting the band Jotugriher Pakhi, where he played guitar. At that time, they even created a cassette tape.
His score for the Gadhvi-directed movie Dhoom was a huge hit. For the Dhoom title track, which was performed in both Hindi (by Sunidhi Chauhan) and English, he was given a Zee Cine Award for Best Track of the Year.
He won the Best Track of the Year Zee Cine Award for his rendition of “Mauja Hi Mauja” from Imtiaz Ali’s Jab We Met, which was his second time receiving the distinction. For Jab We Met, he won his first Apsara Award for Best Music Director. Love Aaj Kal and Cocktail were two additional Imtiaz Ali movies with Pritam Chakraborty’s music, and both were commercial and critical successes that brought him numerous awards.
After that, Pritam wrote the soundtrack for the popular comedy Barfi!, for which he won two Filmfare Awards. One of his most praised pieces of art is still the Barfi soundtrack CD today. His filmography included titles like Race 2, Murder 3, Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani, Dhoom 3, and Once Upon a Time in Mumbai Dobaara, which he worked on as a music director for his 100th Bollywood movie in 2013. The first 2014 movies with his music were Yaariyan, Shaadi Ke Side Effects, and Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty.
Pritam has written songs for more than a hundred Bollywood movies over the course of his nearly two-decade career. He has won numerous prestigious honors, including 3 IIFA Awards, 5 Filmfare Awards, 4 Zee Cine Awards, 4 Star Screen Awards, and 3 ITA Awards.
