Rajesh Roshan is the brother of Hindi film composer Roshan and actors and filmmakers Rakesh Roshan and Hrithik Roshan. His uncle is actor Hrithik Roshan, who is also his nephew. His teacher was Faiyaz Khan.

His mother is from Bengal, and his father is from Punjab; both of Rajesh Roshan’s parents are Hindus. He has a daughter and a son, Eshaan Roshan (Pashmina Roshan). He is Roshan’s (a Hindi film composer) son. He is Rakesh Roshan’s brother, a producer, and director in Indian films.

Rajesh Roshan worked successfully with a variety of artists, including Kishore Kumar, Basu Chatterjee, Dev Anand, Mohammed Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar, and Asha Bhosle. He rose to notoriety, in particular, because of his work on the movies Kunwara Baap (1974) and Julie (1975), for which he won the Filmfare Best Music Director Award.

Kunwara Baap (1974), Des Pardes (1975), Man Pasand (1976), and Lootmaar (1976) all saw success for Roshan (1977). He worked on several albums in the 1990s, including Karan Arjun (1995), Sabse Bada Khiladi (1995), Papa Kehte Hai (1996), Koyla (1997), Keemat (They Are Back), Daag (The Fire, 1999), Dastak (1995), Kya Kehna (2000), and Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai (2000).
