In Gurgaon, he started his formal education at the Siddheshwar Mandir School and finished it there. He learned karate when he was younger. He received a Bachelor of Arts from Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College, Delhi University, New Delhi. He frequently performed while still in college at Delhi’s “Shri Ram Centre for Performing Arts” and “Kshitij Repertory.” In 2008, he earned his degree in acting from the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune.

His father was a federal employee who handled tax collecting. He was nurtured by Kamlesh Yadav, who passed away. Rajkummar’s family was a middle-class nuclear unit when he was a child. After graduating from the Film and Television Institute of India, Rajkummar relocated to Mumbai to pursue his acting career. He visited production studios and met with casting directors for over a year. He made his acting debut in the 2010 movie Love Sex Aur Dhokha after responding to an advertisement put by casting director “Dibakar Banerjee,” who was looking for new talent (LSD). His salary for his efforts on the movie LSD was $11,000. The following year, he appeared briefly as the independence fighter Lokenath Bal in the movie Chittagong (2012). He appeared in a number of movies, including Talaash (2013), Ragini MMS (2011), and Gangs of Wasseypur (2012). 

The pivotal role in Hansal Mehta’s 2012 film Shahid for Rajkummar Rao. He made a fleeting cameo as Govind Patel in the Abhishek Kapoor-directed movie “Kai Po Che” from 2013, which also starred Sushant Singh Rajput and Amit Sadh. Everyone praised Rajkummar’s performance, and the movie went well at the box office.

Kangana Ranaut and Patralekha costarred with Rajkummar in two critically acclaimed dramas that were released in 2014.
