Sayaji Shinde was born and raised in the sleepy village of Vele-Kamthi, Maharashtra, India. It was in the Irrigation department of the state of Maharashtra that he found his first job in 1978. He was working as a guard when he discovered his interest in acting and decided to move to Mumbai to try his luck in the theatre business.

Among his many lauded Marathi films are Kunku Zale Vairi (2005), Bapu Beeru Vategaonkar (2009), Tendulkar Out (2013), Mohar (2015), Dholki (2015), Yuntum (2017), Bhikari (2017), Love Betting (2018), and Tandav (2019).
