Shobu Yarlagadda was born on March 19, 1971, in Gudivada, Andhra Pradesh. His father’s name is K. Krishna Mohan Rao. He has a background in both civil and environmental engineering. He married Lakshmi Yarlagadda, making him the son-in-law of the famous film director K. Raghavendra Rao. After relocating back to Hyderabad, he and Prasad Devineni founded the production company Arka Media, which has since released many critically acclaimed works.

The town of Gudivada in the Krishna District of Andhra Pradesh is where Shobu Yarlagadda was born. From Andhra University, he earned a degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering in 1992. His 1995 Agricultural Engineering degree came from the University of Texas. For the California Air Resources Board, he served as an Air Resources Engineer in the Greater Los Angeles Area for over a year and a half. Together with Prasad Devineni, he founded Arka Mediaworks in 2001.

Arka Mediaworks was established by Yarlagadda in 2001; the name comes from the Sanskrit word for “sunrays.” Productions are made for television in six different languages (Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Oriya, Bangla and Marathi) Movies like “Morning Raaga” and “Anaganaga O Dheerudu” both had him working as a “line producer.” As an Executive Producer, he oversaw the production of films like Pandurangadu and Bobby. Prasad Devineni helmed the production that resulted in Pallakilo Pellikoothuru.

Yarlagadda and Devineni are both on the board of directors at Arka Media Works, a film production company. In 2015, they released Baahubali: The Beginning, which premiered at the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival; in 2017, they released Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, which premiered at the British Film Institute.

After grossing almost 1,900 crore (US$240 million) at the box office globally, these films became the highest-grossing Indian multilingual film franchise of all time. Act one of the Telugu film was nominated for a Saturn Award for Best Fantasy Film and won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film. At this year’s Melbourne Indian Film Festival, “The Second Part” took home the Telstra People’s Choice Award. The Concluding Chapter (2017), the series’s second instalment, took home the Saturn Award for Best International Film in the United States and the Australian Telstra People’s Choice Award.
